I have imagined a similar approach for a while, but I was always wondering: where do you get the imagery?
If there was a particular place I wanted to get a 3D view of that isn't on Google Earth, for example, how do you find the imagery? I'm sure eventually it will come to the point where you input a latitude and longitude and somehow download every image out there and put it together to create a 3D model.
The problem, or I should say one problem, is it legal or ethical to just grab all the images that you can find?
One side of the argument is that if you post them, then they're out there for people to use. The other side would be, "These are my private photos I'm sharing for viewing only."
Interesting dilemma, but either way, this approach is remarkable. Thank you for posting this.
Amazing overview of the state of the art. I wish all survey papers were so well written. Thanks !
