I Open Sourced God’s Eye View

A spy satellite simulator in your browser, except the data is real. Live open source spatial intelligence on a photorealistic 3D globe.

You asked, so it’s happening. God’s Eye View, open sourced, live on GitHub.

This thing feels like a spy satellite simulator. Click on a satellite, plane, vessel or CCTV camera and you can track it. Turn on FLIR mode and suddenly you’re wondering, holy crap, is this real?

The thing is, the aesthetics are obviously having a little bit of fun. Makes it feel like you’re in a spy thriller movie. But the data underpinning it is actually real.

And now you can use voice to ask the planet questions in natural language, and it annotates a 3D globe with the answer.

How To Get Started

Simply point your AI agent of choice to the GitHub repository. Ask it to help you set everything up, including getting the API keys you need, and it’ll guide you through the entire process.

I’ve taken particular care to minimize the amount of paid APIs needed to get a decent baseline experience, but I do suggest looking at the full list in the readme to really take advantage of all the features. Many of the APIs I’ve selected have a very generous free tier as well.

What’s Next

If God’s Eye View (GEV) is missing a layer or a functionality that you want, feel free to open an issue or, heck, send a PR.

This repo is the baseline, it stays open, and the whole point is for you to break things and bolt on layers I couldn’t even imagine.

Now the moment you try to go back in time — tiling, serving, and scrubbing what happened and what changed at any real resolution — the data gets expensive and the compute does too. For that, we’re building something pretty cool. But more on that in the future.
